Yesterday I came across a news item (http://ibnlive.in.com/news/shiv-sena-forces-lawyer-to-back-out-of-kasab-case/80619-3.html) that stated that some Shivsainiks people coerced a lawyer, Ashok Sarogi, in Mumbai who volunteered to play as a defense lawyer to Mohammad Ajmal Amir Kasab, the only terrorist caught alive in the 26/11 attack.
Indian constitution gives right to every accused to have a defense lawyer and unless he/she has the defense lawyer, no trial can execute against him/her. The motive of Lawyer Sarogi was not to defend Kasab but to help complete a legal formality so that the perpetrator of the attack could be brought to justice. However, “budhhi kam, haath zyaada” fame Shivsainiks didn’t understand this simple logic and attacked the lawyer’s house till the lawyer gave in writing that he will not defend Kasab.
This leads to delay in punishing the Kasab but who cares?? Political parties are always in an attempt to take advantage out of everything whether it is Shivsainiks in Ashok Sarogi incident or Mamta Banerjee in the Tata Nano incident or all the parties over Sardar Sarovar case. Sometimes I do not understand why some people are so bloody difficult to convince about the logic. And unfortunately Indians are so damn emotional and the political parties take the advantage of the same and misguide people to the issues that are not so important. Right now what I see important is that the terrorist should be hanged to death as soon as possible, no matter how it happens.
People say extremists are in Pakistan. But what about India? Aren’t they here as well? BJP/VHP who first destroyed the Babri Masjid and now wants to build a temple at the same place (as if India is running out of land for temples; or for that matter India already have so less number of temples). Or the Shivsainiks who destroy properties worth lacs every 14th February. Or the Bajrang Dal who felt that few Australian tourists are trying to convert Hindus into Christians and so burned them alive in their car. Also the local Muslims of Godhra who helped in executing the Sabarmati Express carnage.
Sometimes I do feel that before blaming Pakistan on the attacks we need to first put our house in order. We have a huge military force to fight with Pakistan, but who will fight with these people???
